By early 1982, Parker and Eileen Gambino had moved into University Village (UVA), family housing units of the University of California, Berkeley, located in nearby Albany, CA. As might be expected (this being Berkeley), there were things to be dissatisfied with, which engendered an activism for reform amongst the UVA residents. The administration was content with the inertia of its incompetence and indifference, whose ultimate expression was manifested in the tin-eared and bone-headed UVA manager. Thus, there came into being a Village Organization, which advocated (quite effectively, I would say) for various improvements and worthwhile causes affecting resident life. One of the concessions was the publication of a monthly Village Organization newsletter, “The Villager”. I volunteered to produce a cartoon, and it was a no-brainer (the concept, not the execution!). “Hugh Vee” (a play on UV) ran for about two years from February 1983 to February 1985. No wonder it took so long to graduate!Â
