The Production Process A layer of linoleum is glued to a wood block and cut to size. A design is cut into the surface of the linoleum; the portion of the linoleum that is not cut away comprises the image to be printed. A rubber “brayer” is used to apply ink to the linoleum, and the block is pressed onto blank card stock to transfer the image. Some cards consist of a series of two or more separate images that are superimposed on the same card, which provides an opportunity for applying different colors.
